I little different post today. Yesterday evening we were at the Gage Park Doran Rock Garden photographing a very cute 5 year old girl (more on that soon) when during a break I happened to notice the plaque embedded into a rock. In our careers as photographers I have photographed in the gardens at Gage Park countless times but I don’t remember ever taking the time to read the plaque from 1940. Do we still take time and spend money to create places like this?  If we do then do we take the additional time to recognize the value that we have created in our community and dedicate it to future generations to enjoy that we will never meet?

“As a quiet retreat where all who come may find tongues in trees, books in running brooks, sermons in stones and good in everything.”

Topeka Senior Photography

$100 off of your Class of 2014 Senior Pictures now through the end of May 2013!

Spring is a great time of the year for senior images! It’s not too hot and the bugs aren’t biting yet! Give us a call 233-3827. We are especially anxious to talk to seniors that have fun artistic “different” ideas for their senior images that we can use in our 2014 Sr. marketing campaigns.

It was a beautiful spring evening to photograph Amy & Ryan. They are planning a Oct. 2013 wedding. Ryan is a project manager at the VA and Amy is studying sonography at Washburn (Go Bods!!). It was a lot of fun hearing about how Ryan proposed. He drove up to Amy’s parents home with a U-Haul she found out was filled with helium balloons. Both sets of parents were there to watch everything with cell phones snapping images and video rolling. Amy and Ryan are a great fun loving couple; they were a blast to photograph!

We photographed a wedding recently in the far southwest corner of Topeka. It was a small wonderful intimate wedding. As we were getting ready to do the formal photography my wife, Diane asked where the flowers were?  The wedding party had told Porterfield’s that someone would pick up the flowers at the florist shop since someone would be in town anyway. In the hustle and bustle of the day though, the person that was to pick up the flowers forgot all about them. As a matter of fact the person that had been assigned that duty was completely dressed already for the wedding. Nonetheless, preparations were begun to go after the flowers. The challenge though would have been that it would have taken at least 40 minutes round trip!

While everyone was figuring out what they were going to do I quietly went into another room and called Porterfields Florist to see if by chance they had anyone that could leave the shop. David Porterfield answered the phone and I told him what had happened.  David said ” we were wondering what was going on”. I then let David talk to the Bride’s mom and David immediately started a person to the wedding with the flowers.

Lee from Porterfields arrived as quickly as he could and he was just as nice and friendly, not in anyway upset or hurried. You can see from the image of Lee carrying in the flowers his expression,  just happy everything was able to be worked out.

Topeka is fortunate to have a lot of great wedding vendors to choose from. One of the things we do for our couples at Harrington’s is to offer suggestions who we think can best meet each couples needs when asked. Let’s be honest if we are your photographer we want your day to go as smoothly as possible. The happier the bride the happier everyone is!

We are pleased that Elizabeth and Trent have chosen Harrington’s to be their wedding photographers!  We are excited to photograph their wedding in July at Sacred Heart here in Topeka (Fr. Tim will be the priest!). We had a lot of fun doing their engagement images and getting to know them better.

Elisabeth and John were married at her home here in Southwest Topeka on May 4th, 2013. The couple’s home is in New York but Elisabeth wanted to come home to Topeka for her wedding. Both the bride and the groom are actors in New York. Elisabeth said that she got her start here at the Topeka Civic Theatre. It was a small intimate wedding with family. Both Elisabeth and John love to have fun! Enjoy the images of their day.

Diane and I have known the Meier’s for a long time now and we were honored to have been selected by Elizabeth and Heath to be their wedding photographers. Elizabeth and Heath have known each other since they were very young. Both of their fathers have been friends since high school. I photographed Heath’s senior photos 14 years ago! I can’t believe how time flies! Heath and Elizabeth and their whole wedding party loved photos. We appear to have taken around 1200 images of their day!

The photos here are just a very few of my favorites from the wedding. For the Catholics that know Father Tim you know how nice and fun of a person he is. We love photographing Fr. Tim’s weddings he makes us always feel very welcome in his parish. The image of Fr. Tim laughing below is because while I was photographing the seating of the grandparents I caught, out of the corner of my eye Fr. Tim sitting in the pews. It caused me to do a double take and tell him I wasn’t expecting to see the priest sitting there so relaxed before the ceremony!
